Shaakuntalam movie directed and written by Gunasekhar, has been presented by Dil Raju and bankrolled by Neelima Guna. Tipped to be a high budget film, the project has been directed by Gunasekhar, who is best known for his epic period drama Rudhramadevi with Anushka Shetty. Samantha said that this will be her dream project and dream role. She has teamed up with Gunasekhar for the first time. Produced on a massive budget by Gunasekhar himself, will released in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada. It will hit the screens worldwide on February 17, 2023.
The video succinctly captures the beauty and pain of the titular character, based on playwright Kalidasa’s work. Dressed in a white attire with her dark tresses braided in flowers, Samantha looked pretty as a picture in the trailer of Shaakuntalam.
The clip basically gives away all the key points of the plot, right from Shakuntala’s introduction, to her courtship with the King Dushyant, and the curse of rishi Durvasa which made him forget his love for the ‘apsara’-like Shakuntala. Towards the end, the makers even give a glimpse of Bharat, her son, something which they probably should have left for the big screen.

The trailer opens with the shot of a massive kingdom and the voiceover introduces us to an abandoned baby – born to Menaka and Viswamithra. The trailer goes on to introduce the baby as Shaakuntala, who was born with a purpose.
The trailer also introduces Allu Arjun’s daughter Allu Arha in a pivotal role. trailer opens with birds carrying a baby, while in the background, we can hear a voiceover introducing the abandoned baby girl as Shakuntala (Samantha), born to Menaka and Vishwamithra. In the trailer, they reveal that Shakuntala is born with a purpose. In the next scene, the trailer introduces king Dushyant (Dev Mohan), who falls in love with Shakuntala when he sees her in the forest for the first time.
The rest of the trailer offers a glimpse of Shakuntala’s hardship after the curse of Rishi Durvasa, which made king Dushyant forget his love for Shakuntala. Towards the end of the trailer, the makers introduced Allu Arjun’s daughter Allu Arha as Shakuntala and Dushyant’s son Bharat. In the scene, little Bharat is riding on a lion’s back.

Release Info
On Friday, September 23, 2022, the makers of the film revealed the release date of the film with a one-minute-long, stunning motion poster which left fans mesmerized and raised their enthusiasm and expectations to watch this upcoming mythological drama film on the big screen.
The motion poster consists of stunning visuals and excellent music in the background and features Samantha Ruth Prabhu in a goddess avatar along with lead actor Dev Mohan. The chemistry of both the actors looks really stunning in the poster.
The film was to release theatrically on November 4, 2022, but it later postponed. Makers in Jan 2023 announced 17 Feb 2023 as the new release date of the movie. Shaakuntalam movie will released in Telugu version, along with the dubbed Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam versions.
